SBTi approves Icotera’s 42% CO2 reduction target

Icotera commits to reduce their scope 1 and 2 CO2e emissions by 42% compared to baseline 2023 and to measure and reduce scope 3.

Icotera, a leading European developer and manufacturer of high-performing fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) CPE solutions, is proud to announce the release of its first comprehensive CO2 baseline report, documenting direct and indirect climate impact across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for 2023, and the company reduction targets towards 2030.

The CO2 baseline has enabled Icotera to apply for validation of the Science Based Target initiative, SBTi, through the SME fast track. SBTi is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. It’s an exclusive club of 6800+ companies worldwide with approved targets, and Icotera A/S is now one of them.

Climate action in line with the latest science
Icotera commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions, ensuring that the company’s climate action is in line with the latest science.

Icotera’s CFO Anders Stahl Eriksen says:
“We are extremely proud to disclose our first CO2 baseline and to announce that SBTi has approved Icotera’s near-term science-based emissions reduction target. This is a big step for us in our ESG vision focusing on empowering our customer’s green transition”.

Customer driven transition
The push for CO2 management and reduction is driven by large customer collaboration as they have to report following the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). In 2024, Icotera took a significant step forward by hiring an ESG manager, strengthening its role as a data-driven, innovative partner.

The 2023 baseline report not only informs Icotera’s operations, it also strengthens the transparency and accountability essential to sustainability leadership.

99,5% emissions in scope 3
ESG Manager Freja Ludvigsen explains the value of the baseline report: “Companies play an important role in climate action and looking at our operations from a CO2 perspective provides valuable insights. 99,5 percent of our emissions are in scope 3, covering the indirect emissions from all our activities upstream and downstream in our value chain”.

The emission of the power consumption from Icotera’s CPE products used at the end-users homes in the full expected lifetime is significant. Following the Green House Gas protocol, the ‘Use of sold products’ post is accounting for 81 percent of the total emissions.
